Boxia
biography
An accomplished DJ and versatile producer, Boxia is what the music media like to call “one to watch” who broke through with a brace of EPs towards the end of 2015 for Victor Calderone’s Waveform Recordings and Shadow Child’s Food Music. The trend continued into 2016 with fresh releases on Flashmob Ltd, Huxley’s exciting new No Ideas Original label and Drumcode, but having spent the first half of 2017 settling into Alan Fitzpatrick’s We Are The Brave label roster, Boxia is rapidly becoming an artist who is no longer simply watched but talked about and listened too also.
Boxia’s ‘Colour Sequence’ debut for We Are The Brave was awarded B.Traits’ prestigious ‘Future Sonic Selection” and attracted high praise from Mixmag (“this new one from Boxia - an artist with a lot of promise –is just what the techno doctor ordered”) DJ Mag USA (“Boxia’s latest EP has us itching to get to a dancefloor”) as well as featuring on Monika Kruse’s BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix and being a staple track from tastemakers such as Adam Beyer, Len Faki and London clubbing icon, Fabric, who invited Boxia to contribute to their podcast series ahead of his appearance at the club as part of their We Are The Brave showcase takeover of Room 2. Not that Boxia is a stranger to the London clubbing scene having already featured on line ups for Drumcode at Junction 2 Festival and their Halloween all-dayer at Tobacco Dock.
Boxia returned with his latest EP for We Are The Brave in Summer 2017 and it truly did not disappoint. The appropriately named ‘Point of No Return’ track obliterated dancefloors in clubs and festivals across the globe. From Junction 2 to Movement Detroit, his euphoric anthems have gained considerable support from techno heavyweights such as Adam Beyer, Carl Cox and of course Mr Fitzpatrick himself. The producer’s success in 2017 peaked as he secured his spot on B.Traits’ Future 12 Selection, delivering four stellar mixes for the Radio One show in September this year. Boxia ended 2017 on a high note, offering a remix for Maya Janes Coles’ track ‘Weak’, included on her new album ‘Take Flight’.
Want to dig a little deeper under the surface? Well Boxia is a self confessed “rave anorak” who lives and breathes underground electronic music. His musical education began at a startlingly young age. Surrounded by the alien sounds of his father's collection of electronica records and exposed to rave culture via his sibling’s involvement in a formative UK rave scene, the musical bug was there to be caught, however what followed was a full-blown epidemic of fascination and fixation resulting in a huge vinyl collection, an obsession with the craft of turntablism and an ever-evolving production style that brings out his deep influences to deliver a signature sound of face-melting, dance floor destroying moments.
